Facebook to Loosen Restrictions on Controversial Posts

Updating its long standing stance on what constitutes objectionable content, Facebook has recently announced eased restrictions on what content will be removed due to content violations. The new policy will allow posts that would have previously been removed to stay as-is as long as the content is deemed to be newsworthy or important to the public interest.

In an attempt to weed out clickbait, Facebook has redesigned its system for showing users news articles. Facebook came up with a formula that is partly determined by individual user preference, and partly determined by survey results that indicated which types of news stories are the most informative and relevant. While users should be pleased with the results, critics of the new system argue that allowing users to customize what they see leads to less diverse stories being seen by individuals.
